The opportunities listed below are for PTA members and community people that like to help middle school students. Click here to fill out a interest form or email the CKMS PTA to let us know which opportunity you want to be involved or have questions.
Central Kitsap School District welcomes volunteers to their buildings. Fill out the volunteer form found on the CKSD website, here.
All visitors entering the school will have a background check with your government ID to enter beyond the office.
Opportunities:
Executive Board of CKMS PTA: Each year a new board is elected by the membership of the local PTA (usually in the spring). The board consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Find out more about these positions.
Backpack for Kids: As part of our CARES program, PTA delivers backpacks to school from Central Kitsap Food Backpack 4 Kids filled with food for CKMS students in need to take home over the weekends. Volunteers are needed to pick up food weekly at a location in Central Kitsap and deliver to CKMS. (Backpacks are handed out by counselors in a discreet fashion.) This program runs October to May.
Baking and Refreshments: Bake (or purchase) and provide refreshments for different activities, mainly school dances and staff appreciation events.
Book fair: PTA facilitates a Scholastic Book Fair as a service to the students and the school. Volunteers do setup, management, and take down of book fair.
Box Tops for Education: Shop, Scan your receipt, Share. Use the Box Tops Bonus App to scan your receipt and benefit the students. PTA needs a coordinator to monitor the promotions of BoxTop, creative ways to engage parents and students, and communicate with the PTA board.
CARES Program: This program is designed to help support CKMS students in need. Your tax deductible donation will help provide items such as backpacks, school supplies as well as holiday gifts for students and families in need within the CKMS community. We also need volunteers to help shop for these items with funds that have been donated.
Classroom Volunteer: We will pass your name onto teachers who welcome some extra hands and another adult in the classroom.
Communications: Manage the PTA website and/or Facebook and Instagram pages. Keep our community informed.
Concessions: Jobs vary from purchasing supplies in bulk to selling concessions at after-school sports and activities.
Dance Chaperone: This could be your big chance to learn the latest dance crazes!
Family and Consumer Science Help: Extra hands and subject knowledge are helpful while cooking and sewing are happening. We also often receive requests for donations for this program!
Cub Lunch Bunch (formally known as "Walkabouts"): This volunteer opportunity is an easy way to be involved at CKMS. Come and help during lunch from 11:10am to 12:45pm (M, T, W, F) & 10:10am to 11:45am on Thursdays. This is a great way to get to know our amazing students and staff, as well as to say "hi" to your child during lunch time. You will be trained the first time you sign up. Volunteer** as often as you are able! Once a week, once a month, any time you can give to this unique program helps our students and our staff! Send an email to [email protected] to participate.
Reflections: Jobs included in this super program are: judging entries (photography, literature, music, art, video, choreography) or finding judges, organizing entries and readying them for display, making certificates, ordering awards, helping at the Council Reception, and returning entries. This is a state wide PTA program which celebrates artists in the schools. Your time helps our CKMS students be recognized. The 2023–2024 Reflections theme is I am Hopeful Because…
School Pictures: This is done in September during class time. Email now if you are interested in helping. This time includes helping fill out order forms, keeping lines moving, and fashion consulting. There will also be a retake day.
Staff Appreciation: We love our staff all of the time, but we make a special effort to show it by pampering them with a special breakfast or lunch every other month and during Staff Appreciation Week in the spring. Includes helping with ideas for staff surprises, decorating and by supplying baked goods, hot dishes & other items for the meals we provide every other month. One-time helpers are always appreciated! Fun way to interact with staff. Put those Pinterest ideas to use!
Vision and Hearing Testing: We need volunteers to supervise and direct students during the vision and hearing testing in the fall. Testing is completed by school district employees. Training on-site.
8th Grade Celebration Committee: Help plan the celebration as our 8th graders move up to the high school.
Fundraising: Volunteers assist with various fundraising activities PTA engages in from restaurant takeovers (like MOD Pizza, Applebees' Pancake Breakfast, BluBerry), supporting through programs like BoxTops 4 Education, Walmart and Fred Meyer/Kroger to student-involved activities.
Membership: Enter PTA member information into WA State PTA computer software program. This volunteer activity can be accomplished from home at any time convenient to the volunteer.
Field Trip Chaperones: Attend activities and events with CKMS classes.
Mentoring: Work with students one-on-one in various tasks.
